What is Gametable?

Gametable is a remote RPG whiteboarding client. It is designed to play RPGs online, providing an interface for all players to use a shared map. Anything any player does to the map, all players see. The map can be drawn on, have miniatures (we call them pogs) placed on it and moved around, have terrain underlays placed on it, and a host of other features. You can even point at the map and people will see where you're pointing.

It is easy to add your own pogs and underlays, even while in the middle of a game, and they will propagate to the other players automatically.

Also, Gametable has a die-rolling macro system that allows players to roll dice publicly.

Gametable is written in Java, meaning it will run on any system with a Java Runtime Environment, so it is useable by Windows users, Mac users, Linux users, and pretty much everyone else, too.

Finally, Gametable is freeware. You don't need to pay a cent, there are no built in advertisements or beg dialogs, and there is no malware, spyware, or adware in the install.

Gametable v2.0 RC2 Download
Note that Gametable 2.0 RCS is not compatable with earlier versions of Gametable

Once downloaded, to install it, simply unzip into a directory wherever you like. To launch, for Windows users, double-click "Gametable.bat". For everyone else, just double-click "Gametable.jar".

Gametable is a Java application. To run it, you must have a Java Runtime Environment installed. Many OSes come with one already installed. Some don't. Notably, Windows 2K and before doesn't automatically include Java. So you'll have to download and install it. If you don't have Java installed on your system, you can get it here:

Many people have asked for the frames of the pogs, so that they can make their custom pogs have the gametable-style framing. So for those of you who want those frames, they can be downloaded here:

Voice Communication

Gametable does not support any form of voice communication. While you can play a game entirely over Gametable using the chat engine, it is highly recommended that you use an internet speech program to verbally communicate.

I highly recommend Ventrilo. It is (in my opinion) by far the best voice communication software on the net, and it's free. Also, it supports Mac and Windows, which will probably cover all your needs (very few people have exclusively Linux systems and have no emulator for Windows).

To use Ventrilo, someone will need to run the Ventrilo server, and everyone will have to run the Ventrilo client. The server is very simple to get going. You just launch it and let it run. You don't even need to do any setup. The client is pretty simple and direct, too. And if you have any problems, Ventrilo has a large userbase and support forums to help you. You can download Ventrilo software from this page:
